| parameter | reference | unit | interpretation |
| Ca | >2,15 | mmol/L | <2,00: hypocalcaemia |
| P (Phos) | >1,3 | mmol/L | <1.3: phosphorus deficiency |
| Mg | >0,8 | mmol/L | <0.8: magnesium deficiency |
| CK | 40-180 | U/L | |
| AST | 61-103 | U/L | Elevated value indicates muscle damage or liver damage * |
| NEFA | <0,6 | mmol/L | Fat mobilization, indication of fatty liver disease |
*PS although less specific for the muscles, AST (due to a longer half-life) is more suitable as an indicator for the prognosis of a downer cow. An increased AST in combination with a low CK can indicate a liver problem or an old trauma. Below are the described reference values for the prognosis of a downer cow:
| parameter | reference | prognosis |
| CK | <10.000 >10.000 | good see AST |
| AST | <500 500-1.000 >1.000 | good dubious bad |
