| parameter | reference | unit | interpretation |
| AST | 61-103 | U/L | Too high: tissue damage in liver or muscle |
| GGT | 20-49 | U/L | Too high: liver damage or bile duct obstruction |
| glucose | 3,1-4,1 | mmol/L | Too low: hypoglycemia |
| albumine | 30-43 | g/L | Too low: indicator of poor liver function * Also a measure of protein supply in the ration |
| totaal eiwit | 68-88 | g/L | Too low: indicator of poor liver function Always check the A/G ratio |
| totaal cholesterol | 2,28-3,43 | mmol/L | Too low: indicator of poor liver function ** |
| globuline | 31-47 | g/L | Too low: activated immune system |
| A/G ratio | 0,84-0,94 | Too low: indication of inflammation/immune system activation *** |
* Albumin and cholesterol are negative acute-phase proteins (proteins whose concentration in blood plasma decreases at an early stage of inflammation)
** Cholesterol levels are associated with lipoproteins in the blood, particularly VLDL (very-low-density lipoprotein). VLDL is produced in the liver and is required for fat transport in the blood. Cholesterol therefore ensures that fat is built up again in the body. Cholesterol is lowest around calving (2.28 mmol/L) and should be above 2.86 mmol/L in fresh cows.
*** Ratio between albumin and globulin. A measure of the inflammatory status. A reduced ratio indicates activation of the immune system.
